Compounded semaglutide (aka Wegovy or Ozempic) is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) analog. It is naturally produced in the small intestine.
Semaglutide is an injectable that delays gastric emptying. This means it takes longer to digest which prevents your body from releasing grehlin (the hunger hormone) – making you feel fuller longer. It also increases insulin sensitivity and decreases the amount of glucose your liver produces. Appetite suppressing is secondary. Semaglutide will make you feel not hungry, you will get full much more quickly, and you’ll have no sugar or sweet cravings.
Side effects include but not limited to: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue.
Most patients lose 1-3lbs a week. Some lose more especially if they’re exercising or have more weight to lose. You will lose both subcutaneous and visceral fat.
Supplementing any gaps in nutrition is important. For example, taking a multivitamin formulated for easier digestion and an omega 3 fish oil. Increasing hydration with electrolyte balance to help prevent constipation is also recommended.
